Viking weddings are becoming increasingly popular- and for great reasons! The Viking theme is SUPER fun and creative and is a theme your guests will easily get hyped up for. It's also a great theme to simply play around with, you can choose to do a legit traditional Viking wedding, or simply incorporate elements that lightly reflect the theme. Full fledged Viking themes involve a lot of research and will without a doubt affect most every aspect of your day. If that seems a little daunting, throwing a modern twist on a traditional Viking weddings can be a great way to simply incorporate a general theme without sacrificing the classiness of a traditional modern wedding. Below is an example of a couple who went all out with the Viking theme, and their day was SO incredible!
When Pri and Andretty first reached out to me about potentially photographing their Viking Wedding, I was beyond excited. They were completely dedicated to the theme and endless hours of research in to execute a stunning traditional Viking Wedding.
Pri and Andretty's wedding traditions started the day before their wedding. Traditionally, a Viking Bride would preform a bathing ritual in preparation for the wedding. Pri and some of her close friends braved the icy lake (literally had ice on it) and we captured their December polar plunge at Lake Padden thus completing the first Viking ritual.
The following items were included in their ceremony:
-A circular ceremony arrangement with the Bride and Groom situated in the middle.
-Blowing of a horn to initiate the ceremony
-Mead drinking out of horns
-Blotting (fake blood was dripped over the Bride and Groom)
-Exchanging of swords
-First kiss as man and wife
-The stabbing of the grooms sword into the ground to close the ceremony
Below is a gallery of highlights from P+A's day! Feel free to browse through them and spot the many traditional elements they incorporated into their Viking Wedding.
